CHICO, Calif. - Several nonprofits have teamed up to bring help to people in El Salvador.

The Jesus Was A Carpenter project refurbishes used buses and turns them into mobile health clinics.

The man behind the latest bus makeover is driving to El Salvador, but stopped in Chico to pick up used equipment from the local Project SAVE.

"It stands for Salvage All Valuable Equipment, they pick up medical and dental equipment all over Northern California and they send these in 20-foot containers, they've sent over 220-foot containers to over 40 third-world countries in the 15 years that I've known her,” said Joe Hughes, the man behind the project. “They have just an incredible ,incredible mission to help people with that, with equipment that we don't need anymore, like these buses, we don't need this bus anymore, but it could be very useful in some other parts of the world."

Joe Hughes represents the Jesus Was A Carpenter project, which rebuilt a school into a mobile health clinic.

Hughes collected used sound equipment from being donated by Chico's Faith Lutheran church.

The bus has a medic floor, sanitary walls, AC and will be a place where doctors and dentist can be comfortable while working with patients.

After donating the bus, he'll fly home to Portland.
