NEW BEDFORD — No injuries have been reported, but two people have been displaced in a house fire at a State Street home early Thursday morning.

The New Bedford Fire Department stated in a release that at 5:09 a.m. Thursday, fire crews were called to a reported blaze at a wood frame house at 60 State St.

Multiple 911 calls reported flames coming from the back of the second floor of the house.

Crews arrived to find a "large volume" of fire coming from the four-family dwelling, according to the department.

Residents had evacuated before firefighters arrived, and several apartments were vacant when the blaze broke out, the release noted.

Fire crews extinguished the flames from inside the house using multiple hoselines.

Although the fire had already reached the attic, it was put out quickly, the department stated.

No residents or firefighters were injured in the blaze.

The two displaced residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No cause has been disclosed, but the department's Fire Investigation Unit is looking into the incident.

New Bedford police, EMS, and the Providence Canteen provided on-scene assistance, according to the department.
