BRIDGEPORT HOUSE FIRE — Fire destroyed a mobile home at the 100 block of County Road 1304 in Bridgeport Wednesday night. The fire was reported just before 6 p.m., and the residence was fully involved as firefighters from several departments arrived on scene. Multiple residents were inside at the time of the fire but escaped the home safely, said Wise County Fire Marshal Jeff Doughty. Firefighters from Bridgeport, Paradise and Decatur responded to the house fire, containing the blaze from reaching other nearby homes.

HEAT WAVE CONTINUES — The National Weather Service has once again extended the heat advisory for Wise County with expected high temperatures around 101 with heat index values as high as 106. The NWS has also issued an elevated fire warning for today, meaning no outdoor burning is allowed under the county’s burn ban.

THURSDAY AT REUNION — Bon Jovi tribute band Blaze of Glory will perform under the pavilion 9-11 tonight. Parking is $10 nightly through Saturday. Carnival ride bracelets are $25.

BRIDGEPORT ROAD WORK — U.S. 380 east and westbound will be closed intermittently at the railroad bridge west of Texas 101 for the Union Pacific Railroad to conduct track work between 7:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Friday, weather permitting. Traffic will be stopped as needed for approximately five to 10 minutes at a time.

NEW FAIRVIEW ROAD WORK — Wise County will be working on the following roads in New Fairview beginning Friday: Graben, Old Chisholm, Conestoga, Goodnight Trail and County Road 4717. Oil will be put down, and the county suggests cars avoid driving on them as much as possible, but if driving is necessary, do not exceed 5 miles per hour to avoid getting oil on the car.

AMATEUR RADIO CLUB — The West Fork Amateur Radio Club will meet 7 tonight at the Paradise Volunteer Fire Department. The group welcomes anyone who is currently an amateur radio operator or those who would like to know more about amateur radio. Call Scott at 940-389-0200.

MOBILE FOOD PANTRY — U-Turn World Ministries will host a Tarrant Area Food Bank mobile food pantry 2-5 p.m. today at the church, 306 N. Texas 101, in Chico. A mobile food truck will deliver food to the location, and it will be distributed in a drive-thru.

SCHOOL SUPPLY GIVEAWAY — Decatur Church of Christ, 2601 Farm Road 51 South, will distribute free school supplies at its annual Gear Up event 9-11 a.m. Saturday. Students entering pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade that are accompanied by a parent are eligible. School shoes will also be handed out on a first come, first served basis. COLLEGE REGISTRATION OPEN — Weatherford College Wise County is now registering for fall 2022. Classes begin Aug. 22. Register for classes before they fill. Visit www.wc.edu or call 940-627-2690.

NONPROFIT ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE — The City of Decatur received funding from the Department of Treasury in connection to the American Rescue Plan Act for uses such as assistance to nonprofits. Decatur has allocated $50,000 for this purpose. If your non-profit organization has experienced negative economic impact or has been disproportionally impacted by the pandemic, fill out the application at decaturtx.org/341/Finance to be considered for funding up to $2,500 to the first 20 eligible applicants. Applications deadline is Sunday. Applicants will be notified by Aug. 30 if funds are granted to your organization.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY MEETING — The Wise County Historical Society will meet 1 p.m. today in the seating area of the G.C. Rann Auditorium of the Wise County Heritage Museum. The speaker this month will be Hannah Rainey who will discuss a recent archaeological dig in which she participated. The group will not have lunch this month.

CLAY SHOOT SPONSORSHIP DEADLINE — The Wise County Clay Target Team’s Clay Tournament sponsor deadline is today. Shoot will be held at Fossil Pointe Aug. 20. Cost is $100 to sponsor a station, $100 to shoot or $400 for a four-man team. Proceeds benefit the youth athletes of the team.

SERVICE for Robert W. Davila, 41, of Haskell, formerly of Bridgeport, is 2 p.m. today at Hudson & Torres Family Funeral Home in Bridgeport with burial at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport.
