Plans to redevelop a former cash and carry warehouse in Hull to create new commercial units have been given the green light.

Essential Estates, supported by Sangwin Architects, submitted a full planning application to Hull City Council last December for the former Booker Cash & Carry site on National Avenue and Bontoft Avenue.

The existing building on the 4.55-acre site was built in the 1970s and has been vacant since Booker Cash & Carry relocated to St Andrews Quay in 2016.

Planning permission is sought for the demolition of the current brick structure and construction of new steel framed buildings.

In total, 77,000 sq ft of space would be created across six new buildings, with 11 commercial units ranging in size from 3,250 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft.

The units would be suitable for general industrial, storage and distribution (including wholesale), and commercial, business and services.

The plans also include 174 car parking spaces.

The council has now granted planning approval, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.

A planning officer's report accompanying the decision said: "The development represents employment development in a predominantly employment area on a site that previously accommodated a cash and carry operation (B8).

"The site is on an area identified in the local plan as an existing employment area. The proposal is acceptable in principle."
